Foster police chief warns drivers deer rut beginning

BUCK RUN – Earlier this month, Foster Township’s police chief warned drivers that the rut, or breeding season, for deer is beginning.
Chief James Nettles gave the warning during his report at the Oct. 5 regular meeting.
“Beware of the deer, they’re out prancing and dancing about,” Nettles said.
According to the Pennsylvania Game Commission, the season begins in early October and peaks in mid-November.
As such, deer become more active and some bucks can travel several dozen miles, crossing roads rapidly in the process.
Deer, they say, often travel in groups single file, so if one deer makes it across the road, another could be right behind.
