Frackville approves letter of support for Pumpy; to seek bids for new salt shed, firehouse roof
FRACKVILLE – Another local municipality has approved its support for the revitalization of a local recreation area.
Additionally, Frackville approved a motion to seek bids for a new salt shed at the borough garage and a new roof for the Good Will Hose Co. building at Wednesday’s council meeting.
Council member Stephen Tertel said the Northern Schuylkill Council of Governments asked the borough to express support for the revitalization effort for the Pumping Station Dam between Brandonville and Girard Manor in East Union Township.
The recreation area, affectionately known as the Pumpy by locals, was a popular fishing spot until 2010. The facility is owned by Shenandoah borough and a group of Ringtown Valley residents are working to clean-up and revive the facility.
“It’s not monetary [support,] it’s just having our support,” Tertel said. “The more you get, the more grants you can get.”
Tertel made the motion to draft a letter of support for the Pumpy, seconded by Council member Ed Beneshunas. Council approved the motion unanimously.
In other business, council approved a motion to seek bids for the construction of a new salt shed, as well as a new roof for the Good Will Hose Co.
Council President Ron Jordan also noted that there is currently $203k in delinquent taxes owed to the borough.
“There’s no doubt $203k goes a long way in the borough,” Jordan said.
Council also noted that there are five properties that are “far, far overdue” on garbage bills to the point where council is considering seeking a sheriff’s sale on. Each property would cost around $2.5k to have the properties exposed to sheriff’s sale.
It was also noted that the Frackville Pool is eyeing a Memorial Day opening, and is still seeking lifeguards and concession stand workers.
The Frackville town-wide yard sale will be held on May 6. Participants must register, according to Karen Domalakes.
During the public comment portion, Patti Domalakes noted that a clean-up event will be held on South Lehigh Street on April 22 from 9am to noon. She described the event as “BYOB — Bring Your Own Broom.” Anyone willing to participate is asked to meet at 9am at Lehigh and Frack Streets. In the event of inclement weather, the clean-up will be held on April 29.
