Workshop scheduled for Shenandoah Safe Routes to Parks
SHENANDOAH – The community is invited to a workshop later this month to develop an action plan to increase access to our borough’s parks.
Schuylkill County’s VISION is leading the effort and is working with the Safe Routes to Parks Partnership.
Shenandoah is one of four communities in the state to participate in the program.
Workshops will be held May 23 at noon and May 24 at 9am at borough hall.
“We will be working to develop actionable steps to address safe access for all to not only enjoy Shenandoah Parks but also address connecting community members from their homes and businesses to the parks and nearby schools and services,” Mandy Fitzpatrick, VISION’s executive director, said in an email. “Your personal and/or professional roles in the borough are key to the success of this workshop and the grant outcomes.”
Attendees are asked to RSVP via an online form here.
A flyer for the workshops describes safe routes to parks as having sidewalks, crosswalks, and working street lights; being free from crime, violence, and over-policing; and are close and convenient, connecting people to parks from home, work, or school.
Shenandoah Borough has three parks: Girard Park, Bicentennial Park, and Vine Street Park.
