West Mahanoy hires code enforcement officer, approves loan for police vehicle

SHENANDOAH HEIGHTS – West Mahanoy Township hired a second part-time code enforcement officer, one with additional certifications officials say will help the township.

Supervisors approved hiring Nick Hazlett at a rate of $30 per hour.

“Nick is certified on a lot of other codes [than the other part-time officer],” Chairman Paul “Pepper” Martin said at Tuesday’s meeting. “Hopefully we could start cleaning up the township a little bit.”

The township also approved a loan from First National Bank for a Chevrolet Tahoe SUV for the police department at a 4.19% fixed interest rate. The vehicle will be purchased through the Costars program.

Supervisors also remind township residents that curbside Christmas tree pickup will be the week of Jan. 9.
