West Mahanoy approves tentative budget with no tax increase
SHENANDOAH HEIGHTS – For the eighth straight year, West Mahanoy Township is looking to hold the line on taxes.
West Mahanoy Township Supervisors approved the tentative 2021 budget at last Tuesday’s regular meeting.
The budget keeps real estate taxes at 7.15 mills. The tax rate has not changed since 2012, when taxes rose by two mills.
The township receives $42,850 per mill in tax revenue.
The tentative budget is balanced at $1,946,220, an increase of $41,680 from this year’s $1,904,540 budget.
Supervisors will formally adopt the budget at next month’s meeting.
In other business, township supervisors hired Michael Kayes as a full-time road worker at $14.50 per hour, a probationary rate, pending the completion of pre-employment requirements
Supervisors also hired a part-time police officer, Jason Lex, at a rate of $16.50 per hour.
