Wells Fargo in McAdoo to close in May
McADOO – The regional bank closing spree continues, this time in McAdoo.
Wells Fargo on North Kennedy Drive will close on May 17, the bank announced.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause,” Wells Fargo said. The bank will close at noon that day.
“Branches continue to play an important role in the way we serve our customers, and we continuously evaluate our branch network in light of changing customer needs, the increase in the use of digital banking, market factors, and economic trends,” the bank said in a statement.
The next closest branch to McAdoo is in Tamaqua. McAdoo’s branch was the only Wells Fargo branch in the Greater Hazleton Area.
Wells Fargo also has a branch on Lehigh Avenue in Frackville.
The closure is at least the 11th in the region since 2018, many of which were BB&T or Santander locations. Santander closed in Shenandoah in 2020, and BB&T the year after in 2021. Santander, after moving customers from Shenandoah and Tamaqua to their Pottsville location, announced in late 2022 that the Pottsville branch will close, sending customers even farther, to their Schuylkill Haven branch.
Ringtown and Nuremberg also had bank branches close back in 2012.
Most banks cite customers moving towards mobile banking as justification for the closures.
Some closed bank buildings have found new life, such as the former M&T in Ringtown, Bank of America in Nuremberg, and BB&T in Shenandoah, while others have sat vacant since their closure, such as Santander in Shenandoah, and BB&T in Saint Clair and Ashland.
