WATER WOES: Borough, surrounding area without water as crews seek leak
KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL FILE – The Municipal Authority of the Borough of Shenandoah office and treatment plant in Raven Run.
SHENANDOAH – Shenandoah’s water treatment plant has been shut down for the time being, borough officials said, as the water company seeks the leak that diminished or cut water service for most of town.
Aqua Pennsylvania issued a boil water advisory Monday evening as most of town and the surrounding area had low water pressure or no water at all.
Borough Manager Mike Cadau said Tuesday morning that Aqua shut the water treatment plant down as they sought the source of the leak, which he said had not yet been located.
“Aqua remains in communication with Borough officials and will continue to provide updates as information becomes available. In preparation for any public safety needs, our Fire Department has established a tanker task force to ensure emergency water support is available if necessary,” Cadau said in a statement.
He added that the borough requested Aqua to provide a portable water supply outside borough hall, which is expected to be set up by the afternoon. That water, too, would need to be boiled before use.
In the meantime, he said that the sewer department is taking preventative measures to reduce the risk of issues arising from the lack of water service, including blockages or backups.
Multiple businesses in town closed due to the water issues and the Shenandoah Valley School District is dismissing early.
