W. Mahanoy issues reminder about unlawful removal of ‘unfit’ signs
SHENANDOAH HEIGHTS – West Mahanoy Township Code Enforcement is reminding residents that it is unlawful to remove an “Unfit for Human Inhabitation” sign from a home which has no water, sewer, or is otherwise unfit.
“People have been ripping them off,” Township Supervisors Chairman Paul “Pepper” Martin said. “It’s a $1,000 fine for ripping them off and 30 days imprisonment.”
He said the township intends to crack down.
The signs are posted on properties which have no water or sewer or are otherwise dilapidated and have code violations.
“The homeowner is going to be responsible,” Martin said.
