MAHANOY CITY – A massive water infrastructure upgrade is underway at the heart of this borough.
Crews from the Mahanoy Township Authority and Doli Construction Corp., of Chalfont, Bucks County, are working to replace seven valves at Main and Centre Streets.

Work is ongoing from 10pm tonight to 6am Thursday.
The authority issued a boil water advisory until further notice as a result of the project.
A tanker task force is also on stand-by in the borough to ensure firefighters have a water supply if a fire breaks out.

Chief Dan Markiewicz said tankers from Pine Grove, Donaldson, Nuremberg-Weston, and Walker Township are standing by in his department’s stations.
The Mahanoy Township Authority has received multiple state grants to cover the $230,977 cost of the project.
