GIRARDVILLE – No one was injured when a Girardville duplex collapsed overnight, though an occupied home was damaged.
Firefighters were called to the scene around 12:30am Tuesday morning, after a duplex at 231-233 West Main Street collapsed. The two homes collapsed inward, though debris fell to the street and to an entryway between the duplex and occupied homes.
An occupied home at 235 West Main suffered a broken window among other damage, and the occupants were home at the time of the collapse.
Tuesday afternoon, the sidewalk in front of the property was closed to pedestrian traffic.
(Update 4/24/19 – 11:20am) The Borough of Girardville is planning to demolish the building in the next few days, according to council president Rob Krick.
