KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL – William Moyer pulls a hoseline off a Rescue Hook and Ladder fire truck as crews prepare to battle a fire at 327 West Arlington Street on Dec. 30, 2022.

SHENANDOAH – Friday morning’s fire at a vacant double-block home on the west end has been ruled arson, according to the borough fire chief.

Rick Examitas said the fire, which damaged the long-vacant duplex at 325-327 West Arlington, was arson.

Anyone with information related to the fire should contact State Police at Frackville at 570-874-5300 for Fire Marshal Joseph Hall.

The chief added that anyone who sees any suspicious activity or people going into abandoned buildings should call the Schuylkill County Communications Center.

The fire broke out just before 4:30am Friday.

When firefighters arrived, flames were visible in the second floor of 327 West Arlington and audible popping could be heard.

Firefighters from Shenandoah, Frackville, and Mahanoy City made quick work of the fire, bringing it under control within half an hour.

Examitas added that the crews had difficulty getting apparatus onto Arlington Street because of vehicles parked close to the alleyway’s corners.
