Union mulls barn repair
RINGTOWN – Union Township Supervisors are considering repairs to the barn at the municipal building.
The matter was discussed at last week’s regular meeting.
Supervisor David Briggs said he sought quotes to replace the roof on the barn.
He broke the repairs down into five separate projects. Removing the slate roof would cost $20,000, putting a new roof on would cost $18,000, paint and woodwork would be $7,000, siding would be $21,000, and replacing the barn’s eight windows would be $7,000.
If each project was tackled separately, the township would not have to seek formal bids, Briggs said.
The township is expecting to receive around $200,000 following the formal closure of the North Schuylkill Landfill Association, which would fund the project, but Briggs raised the idea of getting a head start. The NSLA funds aren’t expected to be released until at least May.
No formal action was taken.
The township also discussed a proposal from a local business for safety t-shirts for the township’s road crew.
