Two shot, one killed in Hazleton bar shooting

HAZLETON – One man is dead, another shot, and a third in jail after a shooting in the city overnight.
Jose Sandoval Perez, 26, of Hazleton, is in Luzerne County Prison without bail, facing felony theft and firearms not to be carried without a license charges. He was arraigned Sunday morning and denied bail, referred to as “a danger to society.”
According to Hazleton Police, officers were called to a bar at 20th and Alter in the city around 1:30am for a report of shots fired.
There, one man was unresponsive on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds, and another man with gunshot wounds was sitting on the floor, awake and alert.
The unresponsive victim, police said, was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Neither victim’s identity has been released.
Police said witnesses described the shooter as a tall, Hispanic male wearing a leather shirt and grey pants with long dreadlocks in a ponytail.
Officers identified Sandoval Perez as the suspected shooter and he was detained shortly after.
The gun allegedly used in the incident, police said, was reported stolen from a nearby home.
Sandoval Perez is being held on felony theft, firearms not to be carried without a license, and misdemeanor reckless endangerment charges.
Police said the shooting was an isolated incident among patrons at the bar.
The incident remains under investigation and City Police at Luzerne County Detectives are seeking additional witnesses who may have seen the incident.
