Troopers seize 28 dogs in animal cruelty, dogfighting investigation

WEST HAZLETON – More than two dozen dogs were seized following an animal cruelty and dogfighting investigation here Thursday.

State Police at Hazleton said 28 dogs along with animal fighting paraphernalia were discovered at a home in West Hazleton. Troopers did not say exactly where in the borough.

A State Police Animal Cruelty Officer assisted with a search warrant and found multiple indicators of animal fighting, troopers said.

Nineteen crated dogs were found inside the home and eight in a backyard shed. Another dog was running loose on the property.

All dogs were removed with the assistance of the Griffin Pong Animal Shelter and the Luzerne County Animal Response Team. They are now in the care of the ASPCA.

Troopers said the subject of the search warrant, who they did not identify, was taken to Luzerne County Jail on other charges.
