Township, concerned citizens meet with legislator over planned spring water plant

NUREMBERG – Supervisors and community members here recently met with a state legislator about a planned spring water facility, they said at Monday’s township supervisors meeting.

Members of township government and some residents met with State Senator Dave Argall (R-Schuylkill on August 22 to discuss the planned KH Spring Waters plant on the Kuzma property on Catawissa Creek Road near Labenberg Road.

KH Spring Waters, LLC, filed an application August 1 with the Susquehanna River Basin Commission to extract about 75,000 gallons per day to be held in a storage tank and distributed to bottlers via tanker trucks.

The company, listed on the application as based at a Wilkes-Barre law firm, plans to use two boreholes to extract groundwater on the Kuzma Property.

Raymond Hassey, of Hassey Legal Services, Wilkes-Barre, is listed as the company president.

At Monday’s meeting, residents in the area were urged to have their wells tested now to have a baseline for any potential impacts if the plant receives regulatory approval.

“There’s real public concern that this may have a very, very adverse effect on everybody,” Township Solicitor Paul Domalakes said.

Neighbors have expressed concerns over potential impacts to their wells and the aquifer.
