Township, borough firefighters tackle mountainside brush fire

SHENANDOAH HEIGHTS – Firefighters from Shenandoah Heights, William Penn, and Shenandoah borough made quick work of a brush fire along the side of Locust Mountain in West Mahanoy Township Tuesday afternoon.
Crews were called to 190 Pennsylvania Avenue just after 4:30pm for the brush fire.
Smoke could be seen from Shenandoah, which blanketed a portion of Pennsylvania Avenue for a short time.

The fire was located along the PPL transmission line below the West Mahanoy Township municipal building.
Encountered with a steep drop-off from above, Heights firefighters requested assistance from William Penn at their location and Shenandoah along the pole line.
The fire was brought under control in short order, and, by 5:30pm, all units were clear of the scene.
