Town hall meeting set for 6pm Monday in Gilberton

GILBERTON – As floodwaters continue to recede in the main section of Gilberton, a town hall meeting is scheduled for tomorrow evening for updates and information on the next steps.

Mayor Mary Lou Hannon said she and officials from the county, state, and other agencies will meet via Zoom tomorrow afternoon, and she will pass along information at a town hall meeting at 6:00pm.

The meeting will be held at the Continental Fire Company, at the heart of the flood zone.

“We’re going to discuss how to get help for the borough residents,” Hannon said.

Hannon expressed dissatisfaction with the Reading, Blue Mountain, and Northern Railroad today, noting that the pumps were shut down and moved for several hours at the railroad’s request, hampering progress.

Though, throughout the day, floodwaters receded significantly, and continue to do so at this hour.

The Sentinel will be at tomorrow’s meeting in Gilberton and will have the latest information as it becomes available.
