SHENANDOAH – Shenandoah Valley Schools were evacuated and dismissed early today out of an abundance of caution after the district received a threat, the district’s superintendent told the Sentinel Friday afternoon.

Superintendent Brian Waite confirmed the district had received a threat.

“Out of an abundance of caution, the district evacuated the building to ensure the health, safety and welfare of students and staff,” Waite said in a statement to the Sentinel.

“Due to the quick response of local and state law enforcement, the District was able to ascertain the threat was NOT credible,” Waite added. “The Shenandoah Valley School District is grateful to the assistance provided by Columbia Hose and Steam Fire Engine Company No. 1.”

Waite said that students, bus drivers, support staff, teachers, administration, and parents were very cooperative as the district completed a safe evacuation and dismissal process.

At midday Friday, local and state law enforcement were seen on the district’s campus while district utility trucks blocked Elementary Road, which passes through the heart of the campus.

Borough Police at the scene told the Sentinel they were awaiting a canine unit to sweep the building.
