SV board swears in new member

SHENANDOAH – The Shenandoah Valley School Board welcomed a new member to fill the remainder of the retiring Maggie Shustack’s term.

Michael Donchak was sworn in by Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker at Wednesday night’s monthly board meeting.

Donchak, of Shenandoah Heights, will serve on the board at least until the upcoming election. Shustack was elected to a four-year term in 2019, which expires this year.

Shustack’s resignation was formally accepted at Wednesday’s meeting, and Leslie Gilroy was appointed treasurer, filling Shustack’s post.

In other business, the school board approved:

  • The following staff in-services
    • Social Worker Jennifer Dayson to SAP training;
    • District ESL Coordinator Sheena Micklo to 2023 PAFPC Annual Conference;
    • High School Counselor Gina Miscannon to Schuylkill County ECYEH Liason Meeting;
    • Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher Lisa Reidler to Supervisors Low Incidence Retreat;
    • Special Education Teacher Melissa Troutman to Low Incident Networking Meeting;
    • Elementary Principal Brooke Wowak to 2023 PAFPC Annual Conference;
  • Schuylkill County Guest Teacher Program for Kaelyn Boran-Smith;
  • Revision to the 2022-23 School Calendar for an Act 80 Day on Monday, March 27;
  • Co-Class Advisors for the Class of 2026: Bridget Antz, Kelly Getz, and Amanda Hernandez;
  • A $500 donation to the Spartan Games;
  • Second reading of PSBA developed policies;
  • Waiver of expulsion hearing and stipulation for a student;

    • Dolores Gallo, 4-hr cafeteria cashier/kitchen aide, effective the end of the school year;
    • Rose Mary Matakonis, 2-hour cafeteria aide, retroactive to Jan. 13;

  • Hiring of Catherine Kendricks, 2-hour permanent kitchen aide, retroactive to Feb. 20;
