SUV strikes Mahanoy rehab center

MAHANOY CITY – One person was evaluated by medical personnel after their SUV struck a rehabilitation center in Mahanoy Township overnight.

The crash happened around midnight Monday at the Silver Pines Treatment Center on White Owl Drive.

A Mercury Mountaineer travelling along East End Road left the roadway and struck the side of the center, leaving a gaping hole in the structure.

The driver, whose identity was not yet released early Monday morning, was evaluated by Ryan Township EMS personnel and released to State Police, who interviewed them in the parking lot of the center.

Mahanoy City West End firefighters responded as well and ventilated the structure, as the vehicle was smoking after the crash.

Steve’s Towing, Shenandoah, removed the vehicle from the building and personnel from the center began to evaluate the next steps for repairing the structure.
