Sugarloaf Twp. man arrested for I-81 hit-and-run
HAZLE TWP., Luzerne County – A 27-year-old Sugarloaf Township man is facing charges related to a fatal hit-and-run on Interstate 81 near Hazleton on August 1.
The crash happened around 1:15am at mile marker 142.3 on I-81 Northbound.
State Police at Hazleton said Zachary Gerbino, 27, of Sugarloaf Township, was headed northbound in a Hyundai Accent when he struck Guide Mark employee Kevin Dendulk, 30, of Montgomery County, killing him.
Dendulk was working within a construction zone on the Interstate at the time.
Troopers said Gerbino fled the scene in a heavily-damaged vehicle.
Gerbino was apprehended today and charged with Accidents Involving Death or Personal Injury, Tampering with Evidence, and other vehicle code charges.
He was arraigned Monday night by Magisterial District Judge James Dixon and denied bail for being a danger to himself or others, according to court documents.
