Sugarloaf man cited after flipping car, leaving scene near Weston
HAZLE TOWNSHIP, Luzerne County – A 20-year-old Sugarloaf man was cited after he flipped his Jeep in the rain near Eagle Rock’s Weston entrance and went home on Saturday.
According to State Police at Hazleton, the crash happened around 5:30am on Weston Road, south of Mountain View Drive — the rear entrance to Eagle Rock Resort — in Hazle Township.
Troopers said John Longo, 20, of Sugarloaf was headed westbound on Weston Road in a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee when he “failed to negotiate a slight right curve in the roadway” and left the road via the right shoulder.
The Jeep struck a tree, spun out, and overturned, coming to a rest on its passenger side.
Longo was able to remove himself from the vehicle, troopers said, and he fled before State Police arrived.
Troopers found Longo at his home, where he said he was uninjured.
The Jeep was towed from the scene by D&B Towing of Hazleton and firefighters from Sugarloaf Township and Valley Regional responded.
Longo was cited for several traffic violations, failure to immediately report the accident, and speeding.
