Stretch of Allentown road named in memorial of Shenandoah native
ALLENTOWN – A stretch of Lehigh Street in this city will soon be named the Chief Christopher Kiskeravage Memorial Highway, in honor of the late Shenandoah native and former Allentown fire instructor.
The stretch is directly in front of the Allentown Fire Training Academy, which was dedicated in Kiskeravage’s honor in August.
A 1985 Cardinal Brennan graduate, he was born in Shenandoah and served as an assistant fire chief for the City of Allentown Bureau of Fire and as a longtime fire instructor there for decades.
He assisted in the development of Allentown’s Technical Rescue team and, most recently, was South Whitehall Township’s first full-time fire commissioner.
“Chief Kiskeravage was an invaluable member of our community, who made countless sacrifices to protect our residents,” State Senator Nick Miller (D-14). “His passion for fire safety and teaching made him a great asset not only to our region, but across the globe.”
“It’s a privilege to honor Kiskeravage this way,” added Miller. “His legacy will live on.”
Kiskeravage taught and trained firefighters around the globe and was loved by many as a leader, teacher, mentor, and more.
Though, his career in emergency services began right here, at the Shenandoah Community Ambulance Association.
He passed away in June after a three-year battle with cancer.
The bill is now before Governor Josh Shapiro for his signature.
The bill also honored dozens of service members and first responders from across the Commonwealth, as well as fallen PennDOT workers, like Pattersonville’s Joseph Zienkiewicz.
