ASHLAND – A mental health warrant led to a standoff which closed part of Market Street and nearby streets for several hours Friday.
Ashland Police responded to the 1300 block of Market Street around 4pm and requested assistance for a potential barricaded subject.
Police from Mahanoy Township, Frackville, Mount Carmel, and Butler Township responded along with the Pennsylvania State Police.

Ashland firefighters closed Market Street from 11th to 15th Street for the duration of the incident.
A State Police Special Emergency Response Team was also called, but much of the team was cancelled en route.
Police at the scene had few details to share, but said a mental health warrant led to the standoff and the subject was not at the home at the time, thus leading to the standoff’s peaceful end around 6:30pm.

Several firearms were removed from the home as a precaution.
No injuries were reported.
