South Chestnut home collapses
UPDATE: The remainder of the home’s facade has been brought down and the road has reopened.
SHENANDOAH – Another long-abandoned Shenandoah home has fallen, this time closing South Chestnut Street at Centre Street.
Around midday Friday, 13 South Chestnut Street collapsed into an adjacent lot, leaving remaining pieces of wall and siding blowing in the wind.
It is owned by Santa C. Ramirez Ramirez, according to the Schuylkill County Parcel Locator, and has been abandoned since at least 2012.
Ramirez Ramirez purchased the row home in May of 2021 for $3,000 from Kelvin Luis Mateo Matos, who purchased the home at tax sale months prior, in December 2020, for $2,137.
The parcel locator lists Ramirez Ramirez’s address as being in Weston Place, though, the records for a property they own in Mahanoy City lists a Mahanoy City address.
No injuries were reported in the collapse.
