Some street lights now supported by guy-wires in Ashland

ASHLAND – It’s somewhat unusual to see street lights supported by guy-wires, though that’s the case after several fell into Centre Street here in the past month.
A few more came crashing down Monday in downtown Ashland. The same happened a few weeks ago in the same area.

Rusted bases were blamed for the incidents, in which no one was hurt.
The lights were installed in the 1960’s.
A few lights are now tied to stakes in the ground or nearby objects to hopefully prevent them, too, from falling.
