Snow bans, winter storm watch in effect across region
SHENANDOAH – Multiple area municipalities have enacted snow bans in anticipation of expected winter weather.
A winter storm watch is in effect from 4am Wednesday until 7pm Wednesday for Schuylkill County, as the National Weather Service expects: “heavy snow with rates greater than 1 inch per hour possible.”
“Total snow accumulations of 4 to 6 inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze possible. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph,” the Weather Service wrote in the watch.
Shenandoah, Frackville, Ashland, and Mahanoy City have all declared snow emergencies as of 4pm Tuesday.
Shenandoah
In effect from 7am until 7pm. No parking is permitted in the downtown area on Main Street from Washington to Laurel and Centre Street from West to White. Vehicles will be ticketed and towed.
Ashland
Parking is prohibited on Hoffman Boulevard from Brock to Centre and on Centre from Front to 23rd. Residents must move their vehicles from those locations or they will be fined $50 and towed.
Frackville
From 7am to 7pm Wednesday, parking is prohibited along snow emergency routes in the borough, which are the entirety of Lehigh and Oak Streets in the borough.
Any vehicle still parked on the route after 7am may be ticketed or towed.
“Please be careful during this storm and limit travel unless absolutely necessary to allow our Public Works Department and PennDOT to clear all borough streets of snow and ice.
Mahanoy City
From 7am to 7pm parking is prohibited on Centre, Main, and South Streets, as well as Liberty Hill.
