Six now charged in Freeland fatal shooting

FREELAND – Five more people are facing charges in connection with a fatal shooting in Freeland earlier this month.

State Police at Hazleton announced the arrest of five individuals from Hazleton in connection with the Dec. 2 shooting death of an 18-year-old man. A 15-year-old boy was also injured in the gunfire.

Troopers said Jhoan Solano Castillo, 19; Lysander Josue Pichardo, 18; Waili Bonilla, 21; Wally Javier Barrera Torres, 21; and Emmanuel Franklin Feliz, 19, all of Hazleton, were taken into custody without incident in connection with the shooting.

All but Pichardo were arraigned, denied bail, and committed to Luzerne County Prison. Pichardo is in a New Jersey lockup awaiting extradition to Pennsylvania.

Troopers said they are all charged with criminal homicide and conspiracy to commit criminal homicide.

Their arrests follow the arrest of Edgar Polanco, 24, of Hazleton, the day of the shooting.

According to troopers, the shooting happened in the early morning hours of Dec. 2 near a business in Freeland. The victims were brought to an ongoing fire scene east of the city of Hazleton, en route to Lehigh Valley Hospital – Hazleton.
