Sheppton-Oneida Fire Co. gets $46k federal grant
SHEPPTON – A local fire company is receiving a $46,000 federal grant, U.S. Senator Pat Toomey announced Tuesday.
The $46,320 Assistance to Firefighters grant, awarded by the Department of Homeland Security, will help the Sheppton-Oneida Fire Co. in East Union Township “replace outdated hydraulic rescue equipment and purchase an automatic CPR device.”
“Firefighters embody public service in their dedicated work to ensure the safety of those in their community,” Senator Toomey said in a media release. “I was glad to support the application by the Sheppton-Oneida Volunteer Fire Company and am confident these funds will help them better serve Schuylkill County and keep them safe while on duty.”
The fire company, designated District 9 and located on Center Street in Sheppton, was founded in 1933 and covers a 26-square mile area, providing mutual aid to surrounding communities such as Shenandoah, Hazle Township, and Nuremberg-Weston.
