Shenandoah woman threatens to ‘shoot someone’ in road rage incident in elementary school pickup line
SHENANDOAH – A Shenandoah woman is facing a disorderly conduct charge after police say she threatened to shoot someone over being cut off in the pickup line at Shenandoah Valley Elementary.
Bethy De Los Santos Colon, 25, of West Atlantic Street, was charged Thursday with misdemeanor disorderly conduct by Shenandoah Valley School District Police.
According to the criminal complaint filed by John Buchinsky IV, the incident happened around 1:15pm Dec. 20.
Buchinsky and Officer John Hancock were on duty and assisting with traffic during elementary school dismissal as students were picked up by vehicle at the elementary school entrance.
A silver vehicle, driven by a woman later identified as De Los Santos Colon, pulled up to the door and she exited and began screaming, police said.
Hancock approached the woman, and she began screaming at the officer about a vehicle cutting her off. The officer, police said, tried to ask her what vehicle so he could talk to that driver, but De Los Santos Colon continued screaming and cursing at him.
She was told to get in her vehicle and leave and she refused, continuing to yell and curse.
Police said she then lodged a threat, saying she had a gun in the car and “would use it and shoot someone if she had to.”
Several students and other parents in the area heard the threat and became alarmed, as well as two elementary school administrators in earshot.
When Hancock asked her if she had a permit for the firearm, she left the campus and later called the school, speaking with Hancock. She told police she legally had a gun “and that she could shoot the driver that cut her off.”
She is facing a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge and a preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 27 at Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker’s Shenandoah office.
