SHENANDOAH – Keen eyes may have noticed in a recent Sentinel story that some area musicians debuted new uniforms this weekend.
John Shoener, Shenandoah Valley band director, showed off the new uniforms Tuesday afternoon after concert band practice.
He told the Sentinel the school district purchased 80 new band uniforms, 20 bandfront uniforms, and two director uniforms from DeMoulin Bros. and Co. The band also has new raincoats and a new banner.
Shoener told the Sentinel that the new uniforms were designed with tradition in mind ahead of the marching band’s centennial. The band will celebrate 100 years in 2027.

Uniforms from years prior to the Shenandoah-West Mahanoy jointure until the 1970s had patches on the shoulder, which return with the new uniforms.
They keep the black and Columbia blue color scheme introduced in the previous uniforms, rolled out in 2016 under Wally Choplick’s tenure, while incorporating styling elements found in previous uniforms. They also feature an intercrossed SV adopted by various district activities in recent years.
