Shenandoah resident in critical condition after Humboldt crash Tuesday

HUMBOLDT, LUZERNE COUNTY – A Shenandoah resident is in critical condition at an Allentown hospital following a car accident on Route 924 near Harwood, Luzerne County on Tuesday.

The Hazleton Standard~Speaker reports that Robert J. Meyers, 23, of Shenandoah, was found trapped and unresponsive after his vehicle collided with a tractor trailer near the intersection of PA-924 and Interstate 81 around 11:45am.

Firefighters freed Meyers within 15 minutes of arrival, and transported him to Harwood, where a MedEvac helicopter awaited.

Meyers was then flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest in Allentown, Lehigh County.

​According to State Police, a tractor trailer driven by James B. Huff, 37, of White Haven, Luzerne County, struck Meyers’ vehicle as Meyers attempted to enter the Interstate 81 on-ramp.

Huff was shaken but refused treatment at the scene, according to the Standard~Speaker.

Responding to the incident were firefighters from Hazle Township and the city of Hazleton, assisted by the Pennsylvania State Police.

Zenier’s Towing, of Hazleton, assisted in clearing the vehicles from the scene.
