Shenandoah native named Director of PSP Bureau of Forensic Services
HARRISBURG – A Shenandoah native has achieved the third-highest rank in the Pennsylvania State Police.
Colette Smith was promoted to the rank of Major on April 12, and appointed Director of the Bureau of Forensic Services.
The only ranks higher than Major in the department are Colonel and Lieutenant Colonel.
Smith is a 1991 graduate of Shenandoah Valley High School and attended Penn State.
She most recently served as the Assistant Director of the Bureau of Communications and Information Services.
Smith enlisted in the State Police in 2003.
Upon graduation from the Academy, she was assigned to Troop K, Skippack. As a Trooper, Smith also served in the Troop L, Reading Patrol Unit, and as a Criminal Investigator at the Troop L, Frackville and Reading stations.
As she progressed through the ranks, Smith served as Patrol Corporal at Troop J, Lancaster and Troop L, Reading; Sergeant in the Bureau of Communications and Information Services; and Lieutenant in the Bureau of Communications and Information Services and Troop L, Reading.
Smith was promoted to Corporal in 2012, Sergeant in 2015, Lieutenant in 2018, and Captain in 2021.
