Shenandoah man, arrested for DUI, threatens to bomb Hazleton police station
HAZLETON – A Shenandoah man is free on unsecured bail, facing misdemeanor charges related to a bomb threat he lodged while being fingerprinted for a DUI charge.
Jose Santos Salazar, 35, of Shenandoah, is facing misdemeanor terroristic threats, bomb threats, and driving under the influence charges for the incident.
According to Hazleton Police, officers stopped Toyota Corolla that ran two red lights on Broad Street.
The sedan was stopped on the Shenandoah-Hazleton Highway, Route 924, around 4:30am Monday.
Subsequently, the driver, Santos Salazar, was taken into custody under suspicion of driving under the influence.
He refused testing and was taken back to the police station for processing.
When he was being fingerprinted, police said he became irate .and tried to hit his head off the wall. In the struggle to stop him, an officer’s hand was injured.
Santos Salazar, police said, then began making threats, telling officers that, when he was released, he would return to the police station and plant a bomb.
He was arraigned Monday morning and released on $50,000 unsecured bail.
A preliminary hearing is set for April 8.
