Shenandoah Fire, Police handle incident on West Centre Street

SHENANDOAH – West Centre Street from Vine to Catherine was closed for about half an hour this evening after police spotted smoke coming from a residence, and found the cause to be a wood burner operated improperly.
Just before 9:30pm, an engine from the Shenandoah Fire Department was brought to a home at 536 West Centre Street, requested by Shenandoah Police.
According to officers at the scene, borough police spotted smoke coming from the residence, and officers found the cause was a wood burner in the basement of the residence operating improperly.
Shenandoah’s Columbia Engine 64-10 was brought to the scene to extinguish the wood burner, while Defender Engine 64-11 stood by in station
Shenandoah fire police closed West Centre Street from Vine to Catherine while units operated.
By 9:50pm, all units were clear of the scene, and the road was reopened.
