Shenandoah Family Development fire ruled arson; two displaced

TURKEY RUN – An overnight fire at the Shenandoah Family Development in this section of town was ruled arson, fire officials said this morning.

Crews were called to 208 Pioneer Road around 2am for the reported fire.

Police arrived to find a couch aflame in the living room of the unit. Thick, black smoke came from the unit when firefighters first made entry.

Fire Chief Rick Examitas said the blaze was contained to that unit.

A State Police fire marshal was on scene Tuesday morning and the blaze was ruled arson.

That fire marshal, along with Shenandoah Police and Shenandoah Fire, are investigating.

No one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. Two people lived in the unit

Firefighters from Shenandoah, Mahanoy City, and Frackville all responded.

The complex is owned by the Schuylkill County Housing Authority and a representative was on site Tuesday morning.
