Shenandoah councilman Thomas resigns; borough to fill seat Monday
SHENANDOAH – Borough Council accepted the upcoming resignation of a council member at Monday night’s meeting, and is set to hold a special meeting next Monday to fill the seat.
John “JT” Thomas submitted a letter of resignation, effective midnight Sunday.
“My work schedule, combined with family commitments, conflict with the scheduled times for the monthly workshops and meetings,” Thomas wrote, as read by Council President Katie Catizone. “I want to wish everyone nothing but the best of luck, good health, and good fortune. Go Blue Devils.”
Thomas was not present at Monday’s meeting.
Council approved the resignation 5-0, as councilman Leo Pietkiewicz was also absent.
Thomas was first appointed to council in 2017 to fill the remainder of the late Donald Segal’s term. After a failed re-election bid to that seat, he resigned and was re-appointed to fill the remainder of Marlana Buhl’s term when she resigned.
In 2019, Thomas succeeded in a re-election bid and his term expires at the end of this year. He ran for, and earned, a spot on the Democratic ticket for November’s election.
Borough Council is accepting letters of interest to fill the remainder of Thomas’s term until 4pm Monday, August 28 and a special meeting is set for 7pm that day to fill the seat.
