Shenandoah Borough Council Recap
SHENANDOAH – Shenandoah Borough Council held its March meeting on Monday evening. Among the topics discussed were borough garbage guidelines and several topics raised in the wake of Winter Storm Stella, including concerns about residents piling snow on the porches of abandoned properties.
“Please, when you’re shoveling your snow, do not, if you have an abandoned home next to you, do not put the snow on the abandoned property’s porch.” Mayor Andrew Szczyglak stated. “If there’s an emergency, that emergency personnel need to get into that property, there’s no possible way they’re going to get in. They put snow on the front porches, and it’s covering all the way up to the porch roof.”
Szczyglak added that anyone caught putting snow on abandoned properties, citations will be issued.
Council Vice President Leo Pietkiewicz offered an explanation on the borough’s garbage guidelines, which had previously been vague.
Pietkiewicz explained that the guidelines to be used from now on require residents/landlords in the borough that hire a private garbage collector to provide the borough with weekly receipts which prove the garbage was collected and disposed of properly.
