Shenandoah area fire, EMS agencies to receive $100k in grants

SHENANDOAH – First responders in the Greater Shenandoah Area are receiving over $100,000 in grants from the state, part of nearly $900,000 awarded in the Sentinel coverage area.

Pennsylvania Office of the State Fire Commissioner announced the grant awards earlier this week.

“Our firefighters and EMS personnel selflessly dedicate themselves to keeping our communities safe, often with limited resources,” said State Fire Commissioner Thomas Cook. “This funding is a testament to the Shapiro Administration’s commitment to ensuring that fire companies and EMS agencies—both career and volunteer—have the tools they need to do their jobs effectively and safely.”

“I’m thankful so many local fire and EMS companies were awarded these highly competitive funds,” said State Senator Dave Argall (R-29). “These grants are well-deserved and will help our brave first responders with their critically important and dangerous jobs.”

Argall’s office said over $1.6 Million is coming to Schuylkill County.

“The brave men and women of our Fire and EMS companies are at the forefront of keeping our families and communities safe,” said State Rep. Tim Twardzik (R-123). “This funding ensures first responders have the necessary resources and equipment to continue their life-saving work and respond effectively to emergencies. It is also my hope that these grants will inspire more individuals to volunteer and serve their neighbors.”

“We deeply appreciate the tireless efforts and commitment of our first responders, whose exceptional work keeps communities throughout the 116th District safe,” State Rep. Dane Watro (R-116) said. “Many companies face financial challenges and struggle with raising money, making this annual state initiative a reliable source of funding, enabling them to continue their crucial life-saving duties.”

The grant awards can go towards the purchase or repair of equipment, training, debt reduction, or the construction or renovation of a station.

All grants come from slot machine gaming proceeds, Watro’s office said.
