BERLIN, Maryland – A Shenandoah Valley graduate is being recognized as teacher of the year at a coastal Maryland elementary school and could receive the same honors for the entire county.
Alison “Ali” Semanchik was named Teacher of the Year at Buckingham Elementary School in Berlin, Maryland by Worcester County Public Schools. Berlin is just west of Ocean City.
A 2013 Shenandoah Valley graduate, Semanchik has been a teacher for eight years, four as a PreK-4 teacher at Buckingham.
Worcester County Public Schools says she’s “dedicated to fostering relationships and ensuring all children have access to learning, especially through play-based learning methods,” adding that “she finds joy in creating engaging learning experiences.”
She has a bachelor’s degree in early childhood and special education from Lebanon Valley College and is pursuing a master’s from Salisbury University in Maryland.
Semanchik is one of fourteen teachers selected as Teacher of the Year at their respective Worcester County Public Schools building.
They will all be recognized at a ceremony Tuesday night and one will be selected as the district’s Teacher of the Year.
At Shenandoah Valley, Semanchik was a student leader and a standout athlete on the Lady Devils basketball squad.
