Shade trees planted in downtown Shenandoah

SHENANDOAH – Two new shade trees have been planted in downtown Shenandoah and another will be soon, thanks to a grant from TreePennsylvania.

The trees — tulip poplars and cherry blossoms — replace two dead trees near M&T Bank and fill an empty planter near the former Moose lodge on North Main Street. The Shenandoah Streets Department cut down the dead trees earlier in the week.

The Pottsville Shade Tree Commission and Schuylkill County Conservancy made the effort possible.

Volunteer Joseph Anczarski and family picked up the trees at Charles Baber Cemetery in Pottsville Thursday morning and planted two of them in the afternoon.

Another will be planted once the old stump is removed.

The three trees for Shenandoah were spared from Pottsville’s allotment, of which 22 were planted in the city.
