Sewer chair pleads guilty to summary charges for scuffle while campaigning

SHENANDOAH – The chairman of the Shenandoah Municipal Sewer Authority pleaded guilty Thursday to two summary charges in connection with a scuffle police said came while he was campaigning for borough council votes.

Robert Shumski, 76, of Turkey Run, was originally facing a misdemeanor charge of defiant trespass and a summary charge of summary harassment, filed in March by Shenandoah Borough Police.

At a preliminary hearing last Thursday, the defiant trespass charge was reduced to a summary and Shumski entered a guilty plea to both charges.

He was ordered to pay a combined $814 in fines, costs, and fees.

According to borough police, Shumski had been campaigning for council votes in the 500 block of Furnace Street in the Turkey Run section of town. Shumski himself is not on the ballot for the primary election later this month.

He visited a home, whose homeowner told Shumski to leave several times, police said. He didn’t, and began arguing with the homeowner, demanding to speak to another person inside the home.

The homeowner began to escort Shumski off the front porch and Shumski punched the homeowner in the face.
