PRIMROSE – The Schuylkill United Way raised over $1.1M to help county organizations and the longtime executive director of the organization announced her plans to retire.
Kelly K. Malone has been with the group for more than 33 years. She’ll be retiring Dec. 31, 2025. She began as a part-time bookkeeper in 1992 and was named executive director in 2003.
She will be succeeded by Mike Joyce, director of community engagement at the Schuylkill United Way and former publisher of the Pottsville Republican-Herald newspaper.
In other news shared at the United Way’s annual Appreciation Breakfast Friday morning at St. Nicholas Hall in Primrose, this year’s campaign raised $1.14 Million.
While the goal of the campaign was $1.19 Million, officials still call the effort a success.
“This is an incredible number to reach, especially when we look at the current economic climate and the distress of some of our neighbors,” SUW Board President John Gleisner, said.
This year’s campaign chair was Chris Dende, of Mrs. T’s Pierogies.
The Shenandoah-based company was recognized for giving the most as a mid-sized company with 201 to 400 employees, bringing in $40,769. That was also the greatest company increase, up by $4,771 from last year.
