Ryan supervisors asked to rezone Mountain Valley Golf Course outlying properties as industrial

BARNESVILLE – Ryan Township Supervisors heard a proposal Monday night to rezone the outlying portions of a popular golf course from residential to industrial.
Representatives of Mountain Valley Corp. and Yudacot Limited Partnership, owners of the properties affected, were on hand at Monday night’s meeting. Two parcels — the central portion of the course at the Burma Road and Brockton Mountain Road intersection — are currently zoned industrial.
Representatives said the move is to “make the course uniform to enable us to be prepared for the future.”
The company said the rezoning would not impact portions of the companies’ property along Back Road.
They said they wanted the zoning change made, ideally, around the New Year.

Supervisors asked if they could potentially include the change in a planned comprehensive zoning plan under development with other Mahanoy Area municipalities.
Solicitor Chris Riedlinger said they could, though that process is still very early. He said the township could vote to move forward as requested, move forward as part of the comprehensive plan, approve portions of the request and deny others, or deny the matter.
Regardless, a zoning hearing has to be held and a process, part of the Municipalities Planning Code, has to be followed.
Company representatives cautioned that the golf course is still in business and plans to stay in business.
The zoning change, though, would add industrial-zoned land to the growing Mahanoy Business Park, where warehouses have been built on the former Bendinsky Airport property.
No formal action was taken at Monday’s meeting on the matter.
