Russell, Berger sworn in at Frackville; council moves regular meetings to 2nd Thursdays
FRACKVILLE – Frackville Borough Council has a new member and a new meeting night after Tuesday night’s reorganization meeting.
New member Brian Russell and returning member Charles Berger were sworn in by Judge Christina Hale. Ron Jordan, who was also re-elected, was absent and was sworn in by Mayor Kim Phillips elsewhere.
At the reorganization meeting, which is mandated by state law, Phillips presided while council appointed a president and a vice-president.
Berger nominated Jordan, while Russell nominated Stephen Tertel, prompting a roll-call vote.
Voting for Jordan were Berger, Ed Beneshunas, Russell Cunningham, and Steve Kuzio. Voting for Tertel were himself and Russell.
Berger was elected unanimously as Vice President.
Council also split on a vote to appoint a solicitor.
Berger, Beneshunas, Cunningham, and Kuzio all voted to retain Mark Semanchik, while Tertel and Russell voted to appoint Joseph Nahas.
Council also voted to move their regular meetings to the second Thursday of the month at 7pm, beginning this month.
They voted to retain Entech as their engineer, Brenda Deeter as Secretary/Treasurer, and Geralyn Griffin as assistant Secretary/Treasurer.
