Route 54 closed between Locustdale and Route 901 for mine entrance removal

LOCUSTDALE – For the next few weeks, travelers between the Ashland and Mount Carmel areas who normally use Route 54 will have to find another way.
A section of the Locust Gap Highway, Route 54, between Locustdale and the Route 901 intersection today.
PennDOT officials say the closure is in place while contractors remove a mine entrance.
New Enterprise Stone and Lime began the work today, and traffic was detoured through Lavelle.
PennDOT expects work to wrap up by July 10, weather permitting.
