Rotary Club honors Students of the Year
SHENANDOAH – The Northern Schuylkill County Rotary Club is honoring three local students as their Students of the Year.
The club, the combination of the former Shenandoah and Mahanoy City Rotary Clubs, recognizes outstanding students from Shenandoah Valley and Mahanoy Area.
Organizers said the criteria is outstanding community service followed by academic achievement.
For Shenandoah Valley, the student of the year was Emily Petritsch.
The daughter of Alicia and John Petritsch, Emily is treasurer of the National Honor Society and a volunteer with Shenandoah Community Ambulance.
She plans to becoming an Emergency Medical Technician with the ultimate goal of becoming a helicopter aeromedical provider.
For Mahanoy City, students of the year were Morgan Denchy and Lucas Karnish.
Daughter of Kimberly and Neil Denchy, Morgan is a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council. She is treasurer of the Mahanoy Area Interact Club and delivers Meals on Wheels in Mahanoy City. She plans to attend York College and major in Biochemistry.
The son of Sara and Christopher Karnish, Lucas is treasurer of the Mahanoy Area National Honor Society chapter and serves on the Interact club, delivering Meals on Wheels in town as well. He plans to attend Kings College and major in Exercise Science.
“The Northern Schuylkill Rotary Club members are so very proud of these young people who not only achieved academic excellence but have made significant contributions to their communities,” the Rotary Club said.
Each was presented a certificate and a monetary gift.
