MAR LIN – Two Schuylkill Technology Center graduates are receiving some help as they enter the trades as the legacy of a northern Schuylkill businessman lives on.

Dylan Cordier and Gavin Moyer received the Robert “Bob” Babarsky Memorial Scholarship at Wednesday night’s awards ceremony at the Schuylkill Technology Center – South Campus in Mar Lin.

They are Blue Mountain students who attended the STC programs for plumbing and masonry respectively.

Members of the Babarsky family were on hand to present the $1,000 scholarships.

The scholarships are awarded to senior students directly entering a trade or continuing their education in a trade school.

“Bob took great pride in helping others, supporting his community, and most importantly, his love for his family,” the description of the scholarship reads, noting “his work ethic was unprecedented and unmatched.”

Babarsky owned Wagon Wheel in Ringtown, and previously owned Thunder Road in Shenandoah. He passed away in 2020.

An avid motorcycle rider, a bike run is held in Babarsky’s memory to raise funds for the scholarship.
