Residents get various health, safety tips, insight into emergency services at night out
SHENANDOAH – Area residents had a close-up look at the tools of the trade for just about every facet of local emergency services, and learned skills they can use at home, as well.
That all came at the Public Health and Safety Night Out event, held at the Shenandoah Ambulance building Tuesday night.
The entire Shenandoah Fire Department, along with Shenandoah Police, Shenandoah Ambulance, Frackville Ambulance, and West Mahanoy Township Fire, had equipment on display, which children could explore.
Lehigh Valley Health Network MedEvac also landed their Pottsville-based helicopter next to the Shenandoah Manor Nursing Center, giving residents a rare up-close look at quite literally the highest level of emergency medical services in the field.
Shenandoah Ambulance personnel also provided CPR and other health demonstrations.
J. Yurick’s Emergency Equipment, of Sheppton, demonstrated different types of fire extinguishers and how they’re used, using live fire.
Schuylkill County’s VISION provided a bike safety course, as well.
Other organizations present included Middle Creek Search and Rescue, based in Lancaster County and covering Schuylkill County, Clinical Outcomes Group Inc., the Schuylkill County Communications Center, and more.
Free food and ice cream was also served up during the event.
The event was put on in partnership with the Safe Routes to Parks project.
