Resident, pets displaced from Lavelle blaze

LAVELLE – A home is a total loss after an inferno early Saturday morning in Lavelle.
Crews were called to 55 Reichwein Road for a reported house fire just after midnight.
The Lavelle Fire Co. said crews initially could see flames coming from above the tree line in a remote, wooded area.
The home is located at the very end of Reichwein Road, where the road ends in a three-way split of driveways.
The driveway to the burning home, fire officials said, was a “very narrow, unmarked dirt driveway.” Access, fire officials said, was difficult and only two pieces of apparatus — Lavelle’s Engine and Gordon’s tanker — could make it to the home.
Remaining crews staged at various locations along Reichwein Road, at Dollar General on Route 901, or at Green’s Restaurant, with firefighters walking up to a mile to access the scene.
Lavelle firefighters were able to help the resident and pets to safety.
Volunteers worked throughout the night to bring the fire under control.
Crews from across northern Schuylkill and surrounding counties responding, including from Girardville, Ashland, Mount Carmel, Kulpmont, Beaverdale, East Cameron Township, Pitman, Llewellyn, Mahanoy City, Englewood, Aristes, and more.
No injuries were reported.
